Group Mentoring Sessions

111 111 people viewed this event.

Students from all around the world had the opportunity to attend five weeks of STEM mentoring sessions on Zoom (over 100 signed up per session, and there were 21 sessions)

There were a couple sessions each week, and various different researchers and professionals gave a 30 minute presentation on Zoom, with 30 minutes left over for questions

Mentors spoke about their journeys into STEM, any advice they would give to their younger selves, book recommendations, typical qualifications to reach that career

The mentors were from a wide range of careers; pathology, software engineering, clinical neuropsychology, radiochemistry, laser physics, biochemistry, etc.

Aim: for a wider range of students to understand the pathway into STEM careers that they perhaps hadn’t heard of before, to gain key STEM advice, but also to develop the idea of networking

A big thank you to my team who helped to takeover some sessions where I was unavailable, but also thank you to the mentors who put together fabulous presentations and advice, and of course to all who attended as well.

Feedback: 85% of sixty students who filled out the feedback form reported having developed a love for physics, and 100% found the sessions to be incredibly engaging and useful
